Why Staten Island homes give drains so much trouble

A lot of the housing stock here went up long before anyone worried about what a modern sewer line should look like. Plenty of homes still run on cast iron or clay pipe. Cast iron rusts from the inside and gets rough, so grease and paper catch on the walls instead of sliding past. Clay joints shift and open just enough for tree roots to find their way in.

That is why a drain that gets snaked every spring keeps coming back every spring. The snake punches a hole through whatever is blocking the pipe. It does not take the buildup off the walls, and it does not tell you why the buildup is there.

We work the other way around. Find the cause, tell you what it is in plain language, then fix the thing that is actually wrong.

What working with us looks like

  • You call and a real person answers. Not an answering service, not a queue.
  • We ask what the drain is doing, which fixtures are affected, and how long it has been going on.
  • We give you a window and we keep it. If we are running behind you get a call.
  • You get the price before any work starts. That number does not move once we are inside.
  • We clean up. Drop cloths down, boots off or covered, area left the way we found it.

What it costs

Straight answer: it depends on which line is blocked and how bad it is. A kitchen sink is not a main line, and a main line full of roots is not the same job as one with a grease ring. Anyone who quotes you a firm number over the phone without knowing which is which is guessing.

What we can promise is that the estimate is free, it comes before the work, and it is the number you pay. No trip surcharge, no discovery fee, no price that doubles once the truck is in your driveway.

Not sure whether this is an emergency?

If waste is coming up through a floor drain, a tub, or a toilet on the lowest level of the house, stop running water and call us now. That pattern usually means the main line is blocked, and every gallon you send down makes the cleanup bigger.

Common questions

How soon can someone get here?

For most emergencies we are there within a couple of hours, often sooner. We work out of New Dorp, so no part of the island is a long run for us.

Do you charge more at night or on weekends?

Ask when you call and you will get a straight answer for your job. Whatever the number is, you hear it before we start, not after.

Which service do I actually need?

That is our job to figure out, not yours. Describe what is happening and we will point you to the right one. If a camera is the honest next step, we will say so instead of selling you a bigger service.

Do you handle apartment buildings and businesses?

Yes. Buildings, restaurants, and offices have different needs and different schedules, so those have their own section. Ask us about off hours work.

Drain backing up right now?

We answer the phone 24/7. Nights, weekends, holidays.
