Staten Island is not one uniform place under the ground. Tottenville and Great Kills have completely different housing stock. The blocks near the water behave differently in heavy rain than the ones up on the hill. A company driving in from Brooklyn learns that slowly and at your expense.
We have been opening up lines within a few miles of where we sleep for over twenty years. That means we usually know what we are walking into before we get out of the truck: which pipe material to expect, whether roots are likely, and whether the problem is your line or the whole street struggling after a storm.
Set up on a job. Everything needed to open a line travels on the van, so most calls are one visit.
For most emergencies anywhere on the island we are there within a couple of hours, often sooner. Being based in New Dorp puts us roughly central, so the south shore and the north shore are both a reasonable run rather than a trip.
During a major storm, be aware that every company on the island is fielding calls at the same time. Call early rather than waiting to see whether it gets worse.
